About the Artist

Picture
Sarah "Juniper" Greene has had a deep connection with portals since she was young, when they spontaneously started to emerge from her as freehand drawings.  Without knowing how to draw them, or with an idea of what they were, she put the pen to the paper and watched them emerge.  They showed her an order and intelligence that lived inside of her that she hadn't been aware of, and of inner capacities and beauty she hadn't known.  They also helped still the noise in her mind.

The drawings and paintings are all done completely free hand, using no compass, rulers, or aids of any kind.  There is no plan regarding shape, symmetry or color beforehand; they all start with a dot on the center of a blank page and a creative impulse, and all the rest unfolds from there. Due to the intricacy and detail, some of the portal drawings take over six months to complete.

Around the age of 26, she had a life changing awakening in the form of a head injury.  Emerging from a darkness that had been consuming her existence until then, she has since been fully dedicated to the path of healing and soulful expression.  In addition to her artistry, she is also a gifted, intuitive bodyworker and has explored work in the field of birth as a doula and midwives apprentice.  Her passion of opening up to the current of Life as expressed through the creative impulse has brought her to practices such as yoga, qi gong, dance, somatics, tantra, meditation and singing, all of which inform her ability to drop in more fully and completely to the depth available in the present moment from which the portals now emerge.  She has a BA in Psychology from UCLA and a Masters in Education from UCSC.  Most recently, she has attempted to pursue an MFT in Expressive Arts Therapy but has been sidetracked by a death midwife training and a more somatic, experiential path in Hakomi work. Life is full of twists, turns and learning which she continuously integrates through the creative process.

Sarah's relationship with the drawings has been an evolving process.  Currently, the themes seem to emerge in relationship to the previous drawing.  These portals contain months of mysterious immersion where the act of creation invites an inquiry with depth and relationship with soul.  Each portal drawn conducts the energetic experience of Sarah's life, resulting in the transpersonal drawings before you.

The paintings are mostly created on a commission basis for a particular individual or space.  After connecting in with whomever they are being created for, these paintings emerge as a reflection of the purest essence at the core of the energy she is asked to bring through.  It is a very intimate experience for her.  She has also been recently enjoying painting pregnant belly casts, surfboards and murals. If you are interested in any of these, please do not hesitate to contact her.

"My hope is that the portals bring you some of the joy and benefit they have brought me: knowing that there is a center of stillness inside no matter what is occurring in life, knowing that when you get a big enough perspective there is an intricate order governing even the most seemingly chaotic situations, and realizing that we all have great beauty and untapped capacities dwelling within us waiting to be expressed when we begin to trust our own feelings and creative impulse."
